Course Structure: What to Expect

This programme is a 5-day blended learning course, combining online theory with live instruction and hands-on gym training. It is designed to take you from beginner level to a confident, job-ready gym & fitness instructor.

Days 1–2: Online Theory (Self-Paced)

You will begin with pre-recorded online learning that gives you a strong foundation before meeting your instructors.

PFS Functional Anatomy & Physiology®

Learn how the human body moves and responds to exercise.
You will understand muscles, joints, postures, and body systems, so you can train people safely and effectively.

PFS Nutrition Introduction®

Understand how nutrition supports fitness and performance.
Learn the basics of energy balance, macronutrients, hydration and healthy eating to support your training results.

You can study these modules at your own pace and revisit them anytime.

Day 3 – Monday

Cardio Training

  • Cardiovascular training principles

  • Training zones

  • Warm-up and cool-down protocols


Day 4 – Tuesday

Strength & Technique

  • Exercise technique and coaching

  • Fundamental movement patterns:

    • Squat

    • Lunge / reverse lunge

    • Push exercises

    • Pull exercises


Day 5 – Wednesday

Mobility & Flexibility

  • Mobility training

  • Flexibility work

  • Practical application


Important note on theory

We would like to keep theoretical content to a minimum, as participants will receive full access to all theory materials via our online learning platform, including:

  • Anatomy basics

  • Basic nutrition

  • Gym Instructor professional knowledge

  • Online tests and assessments

No Prior Qualifications Needed

This course has been carefully structured so that each qualification builds upon the last. That means no previous certifications are required — just your motivation, passion, and commitment to learning.

While no prior experience is required, a reasonable level of personal fitness and some exposure to the fitness environment (as a gym user or class participant) is highly recommended.

Total Duration: 6 Days
The course is delivered through a combination of online theory and in-person practical training. Each component is carefully designed to give you both the knowledge and confidence to begin your fitness career or train independently and safely.

Day 1 & 2 – Recorded Online Theory (Self-paced)

Modules:

PFS Functional Anatomy & Physiology®
Understand how the body moves during exercise. Learn about muscles, joints, energy systems, and how to apply this knowledge to training.

PFS Nutrition Introduction®
Learn how nutrition supports physical performance. Understand macronutrients, energy balance, hydration, and the basics of diet planning.

Access Anytime – Study at your own pace via our online learning platform.
Video materials, quizzes, and downloadable resources included.

Day 3 – Monday

Cardio Training

  • Cardiovascular training principles

  • Training zones

  • Warm-up and cool-down protocols


Day 4 – Tuesday

Strength & Technique

  • Exercise technique and coaching

Day 6 – Thursday 

This is the key day requested by the Fire Brigade.

They require:

  • Delivery of fitness testing

  • Teaching participants how to perform the tests

  • Teaching how to interpret and understand test results

Please review the attached documentation and confirm whether you are able to deliver this day.

The available fitness test options (used at 3-year intervals) are:

  • Cooper Run Test

  • Chester Treadmill Test

  • Chester Step Test

  • Astrand Cycle Test

Please note:
The bleep test is mentioned in some documents, but can be ignored, as it is not used.

I have also included the VO₂ Max scale used in relation to heart-rate-monitored tests.

Theory Exam – Online

Exam Details:

  • Format: 50 multiple-choice questions

  • Mode: Fully online

  • Timeframe: Must be completed within 1 month from your course access date

  • Standards: Aligned with EQF Level 3

  • Recognition: Internationally recognised certification upon successful completion

Practical Exam – Exercise Demonstration

Format:

  • 20-minute practical session

  • You will be required to demonstrate 8 exercises, showcasing:

    • Proper technique and body alignment

    • Knowledge of movement patterns and muscle engagement

    • Safe and effective instruction skills

This assessment may be conducted live or submitted as a recorded video, depending on the course format and instructor guidelines.

 

 

Certification – EQF Level 3

Participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded the Gym & Fitness Instructor Certificate (EQF Level 3), issued by ProFi Fitness School.

This certification is aligned with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 3, which ensures your education meets recognized industry standards across Europe.

To receive your certificate, you must:

✅ Complete and pass the PFS Functional Anatomy & Physiology® online theory module
✅ Participate in and pass the 3-day practical training in the gym environment
✅ Demonstrate safe and correct exercise execution, equipment handling, and basic instructional skills

What does EQF Level 3 mean?

An EQF Level 3 qualification certifies that you have the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to work in the fitness industry under supervision or to support others in a gym setting. It also provides a clear progression route to EQF Level 4 – Global Personal Trainer certification.

This certificate is ideal for:

  • Those beginning a career in fitness

  • Individuals looking to deepen their understanding of safe and effective training

  • Future personal trainers preparing for more advanced education
