The final exam for the PFS CUSTOM PROGRAM DESIGN® (Online Live) course is not a traditional test. Instead, it’s a practical assignment where you'll apply everything you’ve learnt in a realistic client scenario. This assignment is called a CASE STUDY, and it’s designed to prepare you for working with real clients from day one.
You will create a complete, personalised 3–4-week training program for a hypothetical client based on the information they provide. This simulates an actual client consultation and programme design process.
There are three parts to the case study:
We will provide or ask you to simulate a client's initial fitness data. These include:
Height & Weight
Chest, Waist, Hips
Arms, Thighs, Calves (Left & Right)
Women’s Tummy Measurement (if applicable)
Resting Pulse
Max HR and 60% of Max HR
Blood Pressure
Flexibility tests (Hip Mobility, Shoulder "Back Scratch" test)
Body Fat Measurements (Triceps, Biceps, Subscapular, Obliques, Total %)
Your job:
Analyse these results and interpret what they mean for training readiness and goals. This will shape your programme design.
This section contains all the personal and lifestyle information needed to tailor the programme:
Client’s attitude toward exercise
Frequency & availability
Time preferences for training
Exercise preferences (e.g. strength, cardio, functional, etc.)
Goals:
Short-term goals (first 3–4 weeks)
Long-term goals (beyond 1 month)
Your job:
Use this to build a realistic program, goal-orientated, and tailored to your client's schedule, motivation, and needs.
You’ll create a full 3-week workout program that includes:
A plan for each day of the week (which days are training days, which are recovery, etc.)
For each training day, provide:
Warm-up
List of Exercises (name, number of sets, reps, rest time, training method)
Cool-down & Stretching
Comments or notes on coaching tips or technical cues
You’ll also include:
Alternative exercises (e.g. for weeks 2–4 based on client progress)
Expected progressions and achievements
The purpose of this task is to show that you can:
Understand a client’s needs and fitness level
Create a structured, safe, and effective training plan
Modify and progress the plan over time
Use the correct exercise selection and methods based on goals and test results
Think like a professional trainer—not just someone who gives exercises, but someone who builds strategy, support, and structure
After reviewing your case study:
You’ll receive individual feedback from the tutor
If passed, you’ll be awarded the PFS CUSTOM PROGRAM DESIGN® Certificate
This is a hands-on, career-ready qualification that proves you're prepared to train real clients with real needs.
