The PFS WEIGHT MANAGEMENT® online course gives you the knowledge to better understand how calorie balance, food choices, physical activity, appetite, stress and sleep influence weight management.
Learn through seven recorded video lessons, available to study at your own pace. Pause, revisit topics and fit your learning around your work and daily commitments.
Introduction
Explore the foundations of sustainable weight management, the limitations of BMI and why short-term weight fluctuations do not always represent changes in body fat.
Calorie
Understand basal metabolic rate, total daily energy expenditure and calorie balance. Practise interpreting energy requirements and calculating example calorie deficits.
Diet
Learn to read food labels, compare serving sizes and recognise sources of energy that can be overlooked. Develop awareness of eating disorders and understand when specialist support is needed.
Exercises
Explore how structured exercise and everyday movement contribute to weight management. Consider realistic activity routines, resistance training and the limitations of exercise calorie estimates.
Satiety
Understand hunger and fullness, the role of protein and fibre, and how emotions and habits can influence eating behaviour.
Specific Diets
Review common dietary approaches, their principles, potential benefits and limitations. Consider their suitability for different clients and the importance of long-term adherence.
Stress Arc
Explore the relationship between stress, sleep and food choices, including practical habits that can support a more consistent routine.
Each lesson includes two questions for personal reflection and revision. You do not need to submit your answers. Use them to summarise the material in your own words and prepare for the final online examination.
