Get your staff to know how easy and effectively to implement, aerobic, anaerobic and LME exercises to build your best fast-paced intense and highly effective workout. REPs accredited.

Group Circuit training is a very popular and fast-paced workout. It is a form of body conditioning that effectively integrates resistance training and high-intensity aerobics. We will teach you how to plan and deliver enjoyable Circuit Classes. This course is perfect for people who enjoy structured class situations.

Each participant will receive teaching materials.


Course contents

After the course, you will be able to:

  • Basic principles of circuit training

  • Advantages and disadvantages of circuit training

  • Examples of exercises used

  • Creating training routines

  • Methodology of creating a circuit

  • Plan and teach safe and effective circuit training sessions

  • Use the principles of warm-up, aerobics and cool down

  • Use music in circuit training sessions

  • Know how to motivate participants

  • Teach various styles of circuit training classes

  • Structure circuit sessions with warm ups/cool downs, timings, intensities and relevant exercises

  • Identify the advantages and disadvantages of different types of circuit training classes

  • Respond to health and safety issues

  • Deliver classes as part of working full-time or part-time within a leisure centre or health club

  • Deliver a number of classes per week in various locations as a freelancer


This course requires a recognised, valid and current Fitness Instructor or Gym Instructor qualification which is accredited and mapped at EQF Level 3 | NQF level 4* such as the PFS ADVANCED FITNESS CLASSES INSTRUCTOR or PFS ADVANCED GYM INSTRUCTOR. If you didn't qualify with us, a scanned copy of your certificate will be required in response to your registration confirmation email.

This course is open for everyone who wants to improve their teahcing skills and general knowledge in the field, walking the path of development and reach excellence.

Additional self-study hours: 5 - 8 hours* the time burden can vary depending on individual ability and dedication. The exam date has been set apart to allow sufficient amount of time for self-study.

Examination hours: The time involved in the examination, is not included in the above hours. The examination is going to take place on the second day of the course.

The PFS Group Circuit Trainer examination consists of:

  1. Homework: A class plan in A4 format, containing a 15-minute main phase, warm-up and cool down.

  2. Practical: Teaching a 15-minute group class that includes PAR-Q + a minimum of 6 exercises appropriate for circuit type + 5 stretching exercises as per the class plan. A warm-up will not be demonstrated. The students will be graded on:

    • Correctly setting up the equipment before the assessment starts. The 15 minutes will not include setting up equipment.
    • Timekeeping
    • Participants must provide their own music and ensure it is ready to be played before the exam.
    • Personal attire, attitude and interpersonal skills.
    • Appropriate use of exercises depending on circuit type, circuit design and layout.
    • Range of Movement, being specifically described naming the muscles involved.
    • Personal technique and the proper use of equipment and music.
    • Clear teaching, safety points and technical reminders.
    • Observe client technique and identify flaws.

Participants must have 100% attendance and pass the exam, to receive the PFS GROUP CIRCUIT TRAINER certification.

If the course has been completed but the examination hasn't, the participant will receive a Certificate of Attendance and 8 REPs accredited CPD points. The final Certification will only be awarded after passing the repeat examination.

The final Certification is given in printed form and enables the participant to teach classes and get insured.
