Do I need to hold any prior qualifications?

There are no previous qualifications required however a reasonable level of fitness and exposure to the industry are recommended.

Our PFS PERSONAL TRAINER WITH NUTRITION and PFS Pilates Instructor are a hybrid course that are the web-based live online learning theory part and the portion of the practical part in the gym is traditional face-to-face instruction.

The PFS Combo® Gym & PT with PFS Fitness Nutrition Adviser course is spread over 20 modules (120 hours) + 20 self-study

The PFS Pilates Instructor course is spread over 12 modules and a lot of self study

The Personal Trainer (EQF level 4) Diploma examination will take place on the last day of the course, as specified in the course schedule below.

The Personal Trainer (EQF level 4) Diploma interim examination consists of:

  1. Interim practical and theoretical assessments are scored and the score goes towards the final examination. If not passed, the mini-assessments have to be repeated. The details of these assessments will be given at each appropriate phase of the course.

The Personal Trainer (EQF level 4) Diploma final day examination consists of:

  1. Theory: The PFS ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY exam consists of 72 multiple-choice questions. For more information about the Anatomy & Physiology exam please follow the link provided.

  2. Theory: The Personal Trainer principles of practice exam consists of 7multiple-choice questions. Please follow the link to take a short 5 question mock exam: PFS Personal Trainer Sample Questions.

  3. Practical:  Training programme - and 1 to 1 with the teacher, where the student explains: client introduction, warm-up, a summary of executing 9 equipment exercises in a correct and safe manner, cool down, stretching 

Optional PFS Nutrition

The PFS NUTRITION ADVISER examination is designed to help understand all the information contained in the course and it consists of:

We assess our students using an end-of-term multiple-choice questionnaire consisting of 64 questions, after the completion of real-life case studies and a practical class using body-fat calipers.

Students are given impromptu pop tests throughout the course to flag any areas of difficulty so every student gets all the help and support they need to successfully complete this course.

Warm-Up (5 Mins)

  • Proper Activity Selection and Correct Range Of Movement Demonstration
  • Mobility of The Joints
  • Appropriate Intensity
  • Conditioning Exercises
  • Active Stretching Exercises
  • Teaching Points
  • Correction of Errors 

Present & Teach 6 Exercises (10 Mins)

  • Your External Assessor will mention which exercises to demonstrate for your clients.

 

Present 2 Methods for 1 Exercise Using:  (2 Mins)

  • Pyramid Training
  • Isometric Training
  • Super Series Method
  • German Volume Training
  • Method of Cheated Reps

 

Alternative Exercises from The Booklet (5 Mins)

       Four exercises from the blow list will be chosen by your external examiner

  • Shoulder Press
  • Leg Press
  • Triceps Kickback
  • Squat
  • Plank
  • Lat Pull Down
  • Chest Cable
  • Lunge
  • Press up

Cardio(5 Mins)

Can be used after your warm-up or towards the end of your test.

You can use 1 of the following machines:

  • Bicycle     
  • Treadmill  
  • Rower      
  • Cross trainer

        You will be assessed on:

  • Machine set up and proper demonstration
  • Correction of errors
  • Increasing Intensity
  • Fartlek training/interval training

Static Stretching (3 Mins)

      Demonstrate Static Stretching for:

  • Quads
  • Hamstrings
  • Back
  • Chest
  • Arms

 The exercises can only be chosen from the ones covered in the Gym Instruction and Personal Trainer manual.

  1. Practical: 1 to 1 with the teacher, where the student explains: client introduction, warm up, a summary of executing 9 equipment exercises in a correct and safe manner, cool down, stretching

If done as an individual module, the PFS PILATES ® INSTRUCTOR examination will take place on a particular day as specified in the course schedule.

The PFS CLASSICAL PILATES INSTRUCTOR examination consists of:

  1. Theory exam: Online exam with 28 questions Pass mark is 75% (21 correct answers)

  2. Practical: 30-minute demonstration of the Classical sequence of exercises as taught in the course.

  3. Mandatory self-study: the student has to participate in 10 classes taught by a certified Pilates Instructor of their choice. An attendance sheet will be provided that the Instructors need to fill out. Not fulfilling this requirement leads to disqualification from the rest of the examination, in which case the participant gains only a certificate of attendance and cannot teach Classical Mat Pilates. The study will then need to be repeated at the cost of the student.

  4. PFS FUNCTIONAL BIOMECHANICS® POSTURE, ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY: Online exam with 72 questions Pass mark is 75% (54 correct answers). 

  5. PFS NUTRITION INTRODUCTION® Theory: 16 MCQ ( multiple choice questions) – pass rate 75% ( 12 correct answers) 

Internationally recognised and REPs accredited. Become a gym trainer and exercise specialist, free weights, and bodyweight training.

Main Qualification obtained: Gym Instructor (EQF level 3|NQF level 4) | Ireland completed referencing the Irish NFQ to the EQF in 2009.

Main Qualification obtained: Personal Trainer (EQF level 4|NQF level 5) | Ireland completed referencing the Irish NFQ to the EQF in 2009.

Main Qualification obtained: Pilates Instructor (EQF level 3|NQF level 4) | Ireland completed referencing the Irish NFQ to the EQF in 2009.

OPTIONAL Main Qualification obtained: PFS Fitness Nutrition Adviser® (EQF level 3|NQF level 4)

Examination: Required - Information available on the EXAM tab found above.

Study Mode: Theory in class, Practice in the gym, and mandatory Self-study.

Accreditation

This course is accredited by REPs Ireland and recognised worldwide through ICREPs.

All PFS qualifications meet industry standards that have been developed and published by the European Health & Fitness Association (EHFA).

REPs Ireland ensures that all standards used are mapped to and meet all appropriate International standards where possible, to ensure all REPs Ireland members benefit from recognition of their status from other National REPs.

Payment rules 

  • We operate on a first-come, first-serve basis with no exceptions.
  • To secure your place on the course the payment should be made upon registration.
  • We allow 5 calendar days to receive payment before your place is given to another person that has paid.
  • After 5 calendar days have passed, and we haven't received any payment, you will need to register again if places are still available.
  • There is no possibility to extend the 5 calendar day period. Registrations are not accepted if you have already registered and the initial 5 days have not elapsed.
  • If we have received a late Early Bird payment (i.e. you registered for Early Bird but we haven't received a payment within 5 calendar days) you will be switched to the Regular Price as outlined in our Terms & Conditions. No exceptions will be made.
  • If you have signed up at the Regular Price or Early Bird price and we haven't received the full amount from you before the start of the course, then you will be subject to Instalment payments.
